What is Web Hosting?

Do you want to launch a website?

Web hosting, by definition is what you are accessing when you see a website online. It isn't just something that producers create, but rather it is an architecture of technology that allows for important content to be placed or broadcasted in different locations online.

There are many providers of web hosting services. The two most popular ones are Apache/Linux servers and Windows servers. Other options include VPSs, Dedicated Servers, Cloud Hosting, Shared Hosting - all systems have their pros and cons based out of your specific needs for your business or personal use.

What are the different types of Web Hosting?

In general four types of hosting are offered to website owners: Shared Hosting, VPS Hosting, Dedicated Hosting and Cloud Hosting.

It is the most economical solution, but also a low-quality solution. The operation of shared hosting is as follows: several websites – or even 1,000 to 3,000 websites – share the resources of ONE server.

Example: A website that is hyper busy or has the wrong code could take up to 80% of the memory of a shared server. This would leave only 20% memory for the other 2,999 sites on the same server.

Can shared hosting be a good option? YES! For websites in development, test sites or those where loading speed is not an important element.

VPS hosting (for Virtual Private Server)is an excellent solution when it comes to quality-price ratio. Although it is also a shared environment, this type of web hosting is limited to a maximum of 20 sites on the same server.

VPS hosting is an egalitarian solution: all sites on a server have the same memory and space on the server's hard drive.

The VPS is flexible in terms of configuration and gives developers a lot of options. The same goes for budgets: the price of VPS hosting ranges from $80 to $450 per month.

Finally, the best VPS solutions are often much more powerful than the worst dedicated hosts.

Preferred option for sites that welcome more than 100,000 visitors per month. The name suggests, it is a single server that is the host of a single website.

The main disadvantage of dedicated hosting is that it requires superior IT and hosting skills.

Dedicated hosting is essential for the following two types of websites: those with hyper-specific hardware needs and those for which data privacy is the priority.

The latest type of web hosting, cloud hosting is essentially an improved version of the VPS. In particular, it offers the possibility of using the resources of several servers on the same network.

This is an option for large enterprises because of the many options available when it comes to IT security. This type of hosting has been designed to withstand hacker attacks.
